About us
We are Herling and Marko, the hosts of the Mesi Tare guesthouse.
We offer guests a so-called niche service, providing authentic accommodation in a true Peipsiveere Old Believers’ village house, located on the Onion Road.
In February 2016, the Estonian Rural Tourism Association and the Estonian Tourist Board recognized us as the first accommodation in Estonia to receive the EHE eco-tourism and quality label! Which means, staying at our guesthouse is an authentic and extraordinary experience!
Our story
We are Herling and Marko, the hosts of the Mesi Tare guesthouse.
We had a dream of a vacation home at the lake Peipus. We restored a local old house and it became a home-like place where we introduce local traditions and way of life, leaving out the trends of European-style renovations. We want to offer our guests a true sense of home and a cozy stay with us.
In our operations, we follow the principles of environmental conservation. We and our guests sort waste, avoid wasting water, and are environmentally friendly.
Services
We offer accommodation, saunas, boat rentals, boat trips on Lake Peipus, hiking tours in Varnja with a guide, boat tours in Emajõe Suursoo (swamp nearby), and lake safaris with a karakatitsa. Additionally, we have a private museum in Varnja where you can explore more than 200 samovars. We have a wide variety of saunas (Finnish sauna, smoke sauna, plastic sauna, saunatent , hot tub, boat saunas).
We also have a cozy meeting room with a fireplace, ideal for gatherings, celebrating birthdays, or hosting company events.
There’s even more – we have five charming boat houses on the shores of Lake Peipus, operating on a camping-style principle. Two of the boathouses have a sauna on board (using a sauna is included in the service), three of the boathouses are simple but romantic places to have a country vacation. Staying in a boat house on Lake Peipsi has also been awarded the EHE eco and quality label by the Rural Tourism Association. Come and experience this great adventure!

Boat tour on Onion route for small group up to 5 people – 190€ per group
Day trip to island Piirissaare by boat with tour on the island (for group up to 10 people) – 600€
Lake Peipus boat tour (for group up to 10 people) – 290€ (2 hrs, 100€ per additional hour)
Boat tour to Emajõe Suursoo (Emajõe swamp area nearby) for smaller group 5-15 people – 49€ per person
All year:
